Devotional Kirtan
Devotional kirtan or chanting is the practice of coming together to sing mantras, where we repeat them again and again and again, to invoke and access the energy of love, The one, or God. It opens the heart and connects us to the source, a space of joy, peace, trust, our real nature. We come together to experience bhakti or devotion. Generally, the more you do it, the more you want to keep doing it!
In the yoga tradition, we sing sanskrit mantras, but people from different traditions and religions sing in hebrew, sikh and many other languages. Sanskrit has a very special energy because of the way the words resonate throughout the body and massages the organs when we speak or sing it.
Chanting is not really something to be understood, but instead to be experienced. Is a practice from the heart and not the mind! Check out this article on “What is Kirtan” writen by Liza and feautured at Body in Balnce TV!
